I am fairly new as a notary public and only have done a few in los angeles county. I was asked to notorize a loan modification pkg. How much should I be charging for my (1) signature?

I’ve done a loan modification (11 pgs total) and it had two notarizations so I charged only for the notarizations. Since the client agreed to meet me at a location of my convenience, I did not charge a travel fee. And also, the loan officer was there so I didn’t have to describe anything, he did all the talking, I just did my part. You don’t charge per YOUR signature but per the notarization. If there is just one page within the docs to notarize, charge for that plus a travel fee.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but in CA you charge per signature notarized, not per certificate (notarization) correct? If two people sign a doc to be notarized it’s $20 (here in FL it’s per certificate so it would be $10)...or did all this change with your new laws in January?

Linda H, you are correct.

A note modification assigned by a lender/signing service I normally charge 30.00 and the payment comes from the signing service. If I was asked to notarize a document and met a client at lets say McDonald’s, there is a husband and wife my fee would have been 25.00. The reason the signing service pays 30.00 is because you print out a total of 14 pages.

In Arizona you are only allowed to charge $2 per signature and travel is to be 35cents per mile. So we have to be creative and charge for our service in order to make any money. Depending on how long I think it may take is how I would have to compute my charge to satisfy the gov’t. On something like this that is nearby I would probably charge $25 for a S.S.
