Topic: New Notary FREAKING OUT! You can take a class online but it is really not required. When you get your package go over it, scan every page and in the beginning well put sticky notes wherever a signature or initials are required. Make sure your customer signs with it’s middle initial if required … but mainly get familiar with the docs. After a few closings you will know what to do and will not need the sticky sign here notes anymore and you will be familiar with all the pages of a closing on a mortage or refinancing. It took time to build Rome and it will take you less time to build your business … Good Luck to you:) |

Topic: Mileage Rates For July 1, 2010 I was teaching a loan signing course for www.notaryclasses.com yesterday in Anaheim CA and I had a tax accountant in the room and she told me the mileage rate for business mileage is updated every Jan 1st and July 1st and July 1,2010 the rate will be $0.55 per mile. In my opinion, mileage should be documented everyday and put in a log. Lots of money!! |

Topic: WARNING - Anytime Mobile Notary Nationwide Anyone being contacted by Jennifer Middlebrook should immediately hang up the phone. This person purports to be an ATTORNEY but is not !! She also does not pay. It has been well over 60 days since I conducted a signing for her “company” and her excuse is that the Title Co. has not yet paid her. In speaking to her recently, I challenged her on the claims that she is an attorney – something that is also indicated on her “cheesy” unprofessional website: www.anytimemobilenotarynationwide.webs.com When I asked in what state she was an attorney, she said “not in Georgia – do you need a Georgia attorney ?” I told her no, that SHE claims to be an attorney, and I’d like to know in what state – she promptly hung up on me and refused to answer any further calls. Although, she is very clever to indicate that the “founder” of the company is an attorney, and no name is given. Interestingly enough, she has 3 Georgia-based (Atlanta) phone numbers, a Tennessee mailing address, and a Utah fax number. AVOID this company at all costs ! While I appreciate anyone posting to give me advice, I don’t need it. I’m a former law enforcement officer and Attorney’s Investigator, so I know exactly what to do next. This person will be reported to the appropriate authorities for unauthorized practice of law. |

Topic: Update Service Areas Linda, thank you. I am new at this. I have been reading your reply’s on many of the forums. You are so knowledgeable. It is a pleasure to read what you have to say. I have made copies of many of your reply’s just for reference to fall back on. I read a lot of Paul’s reply’s and I also make copies of his reply’s as well. Both of you know the notary business. I am still waiting to get my first call. But that is OK. I am reading a lot and I have also order the TSR Training Guide to help me better to understand what I need to do and not to be nervous when I do get the call. Thank you. Judy/FL |

Topic: What is a loan on a Structured settlement? Try this link: http://www.christianet.com/structuredsettlements/loansforstructuredsettlement.htm You can also google “structured settlement loans”. As far as notarizing goes, you notarize signatures on a structured settlement as you normally would on any other document. |

Topic: Yahoo users for notary work When I first started preforming signing work I used a yahoo email. I found that I had trouble with receiving/sending files for various reasons. I have since switched to gmail and have not encountered any issues with file size or sending/receiving attachments. One major issue was the size of the files I was receiving via yahoo. I had to have the companies send multiple emails because all the attachments could not be on one email. Gmail allows for larger files. I have not had to have one company send multiple emails with docs since I have changed. Fewer emails make it easier for me to ensure I have deleted the information after use. |

Topic: New Notary FREAKING OUT! Wow, I don’t remember having to undergo a BGC just for the training material. What is up with that? I started out over 4 years ago when BGC weren’t even an issue, so that may be why that is news to me. |

Topic: New Notary FREAKING OUT! I would more strongly suggest the Signing Registry training guide – very comprehensive with sample loan docs and how-to’s…far better than the NNA material, IMO…and you don’t need to undergo a BGC just to get the material!! MHO |

Topic: New Notary FREAKING OUT! I, too, say good luck. I’ve been doing this for 5 years now and its amazing at how slow the business has been in the past couple years. As an experienced signing agent, I no longer accept the $65 minimum “suggestion” of the NNA. After doing it for so many years, I have found that amount is not worth my time. There are too many things that come up during a signing, ID issues, questions on docs, etc. I am worth more than that. For a straight, plain vanilla signing, that might be a decent price, but you will find that they are rarely PLAIN VANILLA. I would highly recommend you pick up the NNA Signing agent training materials as I found them to be very useful when I started out. The most important thing I would say though is this: DONT LET THEM take advantage of you. Signing services are making more than half of the fee if they only pay you 65 bucks. Don’t let them set the bar so low in pay, yet expect professional signing agents. |

Topic: CJ Signings? Still non-payers? I just received a call from CJ Signings for a job. I remembered all the posts on several notary databases about their business practice of not paying or paying very slowly. I told them I was unavailable. I hate turning down work, but would rather do so then take a job from a SS with a bad reputation or one that underpays. I haven’t seen any recent posts on CJ Signings though and was wondering if maybe they got their act together. Does anyone have any recent experience with them? Thanks. |

Topic: $100K of E & O We actually carry $1,000,000 of Notary E&O. Provident Funding for example requires ANY notary in the U.S (even if a signing agent company your going thru has that much they require the actual NOTARY to carry that much or nor deal) to carry at least $500,000 of E&O. But cheapest place bar none is Merchants Bonding Company to get E&O of $100K or lower (that’s there max we checked) call them directly DON’T go thru the NNA. We think $100,000 is the bare minimum to carry, it’s very cheap and helps you get alot more work at least in our experience in Texas. Hope that helps, |
