Topic: Hypothetical? No, it shouldn’t get rejected for that. I know when I first started out, I missed circling one of the options ( he/she/they).....the paperwork was not rejected. One thing that I’ve heard WILL be rejected by the county recorder when it comes to deeds is if you forget to put “Notary Public” after your name. |

Topic: CA notary DL info From Page 9 of your handbook, in part: http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/notary/forms/handbook.pdf “A notary public is required to keep one active sequential journal at a time of all acts performed as a notary public. The journal must be kept in a locked and secured area (such as a lock box or locked desk drawer), under the direct and exclusive control of the notary public. The journal shall include the items shown below. (Government Code section 8206(a)).... • A statement that the identity of a person making an acknowledgment or taking an oath or affirmation was based on “satisfactory evidence” pursuant to Civil Code section 1185. If satisfactory evidence was based on: 1. Paper identification, the journal shall contain the type of identifying document, the governmental agency issuing the document, &the serial or identifying number of the document*, and the date of issue or expiration of the document; Hope this helps. |

Topic: CA notary DL info I think I might have been taught wrong??? I thought that the teacher in my notary class has said that when you ID someone with their DL or Social Security you do not record the ID number because of confidentiality. I had two other notaries tell me you do get the ID Number. It makes sense to me to record the ID number but would like to know the correct info to record. So I would get their name, address, DOB, EXP and the ID number of the DL. |

Topic: New Notary Marian… In addition to the great advice Lisa gave you…one short word – be very careful what assignments you accept in your loan signing business as there are some loans in Texas that MUST be signed in a title company office…and if you need to rent/borrow space there that will be an additional fee for you to take into consideration. |

Topic: New Notary SA’s set their prices by a number of factors, and it’s different for each SA. You have to determine for yourself what fee to charge that will make you a profit and be worth your time and energy. Some things to consider: Base price for a signing when borrower is mailed the docs. (called overnight docs); add $25 – the standard rate – for edocs (docs emailed to Notary that the Notary has to print on their own laser printer, thereby using the Notary’s toner and paper + wear and tear on their equipment); the type of loan signing – purchase, refinance, 1st mortgage or 1st and 2nd mortgages, reverse mortgage; travel distance to borrower, up to what distance will you drive before you charge an extended travel fee; fax back fee if the title company requires the Notary to fax back the entire package or even a certain number of pages beyond “reasonable” amount (what is considered a “reasonable” number of pages to fax back in a loan package? ten? twenty? fifty?; Suppose you’re called last minute to do a 10pm or 11pm sigining? Do you charge extra for late night signings? Personally, for me the fee goes up by $25 for a signing after 10pm. Approximately 2/3 the fee of a loan signing is expenses and 1/3 is profit. A typical signing will take three hours – that’s printing the docs, driving to the borrower, completing the signing, then shipping the package. Consider the following when setting your fees. $50 signing fee = $5.56 per hour; $65 signing fee = $7.22 hour; $85 signing fee = $9.44 per hour; $100 signing fee = $11.11 per hour; $125 signing fee = $13.89 per hour; $150 signing fee = $16.67 per hour; $175 signing fee = $19.44 per hour; Hope this helps. |

Topic: seeking mobile notary service Use the “search for a notary” feature here. Put in the zip code for San Luis Obispo and you will find Notaries in that area. Not all Notaries will visit jails so you’ll probably have to call several Notaries to find one who’s willing to do it. Good luck. |

Topic: Notarizing For Family Some choose to notarize for family, some will not, and some don’t do general notary work. If you choose not to, one place you can suggest to your spouse or family member for the notary needs is the AAA office and depending on the level of membership they have, it may be FREE. Besides, even us Notaries have to have someplace to go for our own notary needs, too. The friend who notarizes for you for free (as you notarize free for them too), may not always be available. Hope this helps someone. |

Topic: Money transfer coverage w/ E&O Ins? Where are you located? I believe some states, like Virginia, have a special bond requirement for notaries who are picking up checks. Check with your state SOS and other notaries public in your community before you purchase any extra E&O coverage. Personally, I’ve never heard of an E&O coverage for money transfer but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. |

Topic: Money transfer coverage w/ E&O Ins? A signing company asked if my E&O Insurance had money transfer coverage. When I checked w/ NNA where I bought my policy it does not cover it nor do they offer it. Does anyone know a company that offers this? It would seem important to have & I can’t find it. Thanks. |

Topic: CJ SIGNING OWES ME ALOT OF MONEY, DO NOT CLOSE FOR THEM, they are not the company they used to be I did a job for CJ Signings in February 2009. It took 63 days, and many attempts to contact them, before I pried payment out of their hands. I found Liz to be extremely unresponsive to my inquiries, and I received payment only after I threatened to contact the title company and the loan officer on the deal. I will not work for them again. |

Topic: Never Assume Email Loan Documents Come In Order Thursday, May 21st I had 2 loan signing assignment from the same company: one at 3:00 PM and one at 6:30 pm. The 3:00 pm assignment was at the last moment and the company wanted to know if I could get to the signing immediately, and I said yes, I thought I could get there by 3:30 pm. Not a problem. I print the docs and get to my appointment by 3:45 pm and discover the documents were for my 6:30 pm appointment. I never looked at the name and printed the docs and assumed the docs were for the 3:00 pm appt. This happened to me a couple of years ago and I remember it happened to my son James, where he wound up going to Palm Springs and having to drive 120 miles round trip. Oh well, all the signings were completed: I will be making sure this doesn’t happen again! The documents for the 3:00 PM were sent at 7pm and I got them signed at 8 pm. My fault entirely!! Should have checked the name on the docs. |

Topic: Memorial Holiday Weekend We have a major holiday weekend coming up in a few days (Memorial Holiday Weekend) and this is a great time to touch bases with the Title, Escrow, Lender&Signing Companies and tell them you are available for notary/loan-signer assignments over the holiday weekend. Actually it’s an excuse to”just say hello” and keep on their radar screen! |

Topic: Reactivated my NSA status Hello, all: After a move from Arizona to Orange County, California I have recently reestablished my status as a notary signing agent. I have had my background screening completed. As a law student, I have a flexible schedule for signings and as a general ‘mobile notary’. Any bones you can throw this “starving student” will be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much! |

Topic: training materials Hi Matt: I went to Amazon and found a book that was the course and exam by the NNA and I bought it for around $12 which included S&H. It was used and I’m just using it for more informtion. I had already bought the course through 123notary and paid $119. Now I don’t know if you can take the test from the one with Amazon since it doesn’t come straight from the NNA but I do know there are other sites that offer just the test for a very reasonable price. Well good luck and sorry this is such a late post. Hope I’m not too late. Have a great weekend. Lucia |

Topic: UPDATE ON CJ SIGNING UPDATE- I have been contacted by Kim at CJ Signing and we are working out a payment plan for the unpaid invoices. Which is really all that I wanted. The person who was given my last requests no longer works for them and I believe that caused atleast some of the lack of a response communication from them. So hopefully this will be resolved soon. I did like working with them and have always found them to be friendly and fair on pricing for a signing service. So I just wanted to let everyone know that hopefully this will be resolved soon and they will be a good company again on my list. Sherri |

Topic: CJ SIGNING OWES ME ALOT OF MONEY, DO NOT CLOSE FOR THEM, they are not the company they used to be CJ SIGNING OWES ME MORE THAN 2000 dollars. Liz has always been very nice, but the “woman” who writes the checks, who Liz says exists, doesn’t pay or return contacts either! I have to start major collection efforts on them now. ALL of my loans were done properly and they were paid for my work and they did not pay me. I have never had an issue or correction needed on any of the packages I have sent them. I see many other people have posted late or NO pay issues for them so I think they are on the way out. Unless they find suckers who want to work for free to keep money coming in to them. I won’t be one of those suckers anymore. I feel bad for Liz to be the voice of a company who operates like that. I have ALL the info including title company and lender for each one and I will be contacting their SOS and each of the aforementioned this week as I have time as well. I have sent the invoices multiple times, and asked for a simple reply about working out payment plan for them, (which I thought was extremely fair) and the “woman” who pays the bills did not contact me at all. Liz said that she assumed it had been paid and forwarded it onto the “woman” again, yet still no reply. I stated that they had until Monday, (yesterday) to atleast contact me about it or I would notify my fellow signing agents and all other parties involved in the transactions about this serious non payment issue. We need to stick together and force these companies to respect us, we respect and represent them very well and expect the same in return. JUST SAY NO, then add PAY YOUR INVOICES! Perhaps they will turn around and be a good company again. PS, others are having issues with them as well, there were posts on not rot from other poor unpaid people as well. Sherri |
